The Salesian Family was shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Fr. Steve Schenck yesterday (Saturday, November 10). Fr. Steve was pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Port Chester, New York, and known for his warmth, good humor and passion for the Salesian mission to the young. Among his many talents was song writing, and his hymn to Don Bosco, "Friend of the Young and the Poor," is known by heart by anyone who attends or has attended a Salesian school or camp over the last twenty years. For those of us who knew him as a brother Salesian, the feelings of pure shock are still too fresh to put into words. Please pray for him, the parish community of Holy Rosary who have lost their beloved pastor and especially for his family, who mourns the loss of their brother.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen
